Kids & Teens Krav Maga
Kids & Teens Krav Maga (Arlington, Massachusetts)
Our Kids and Teens Krav Maga program is suitable for Kids and Teens aged 6 to 17. Krav Maga isn’t a martial art like Tae-Kwon-Do, Karate or Kung Fu etc., but a reality-based self-defense system that teaches Kids and Teens how manage aggressive and potentially violent individuals, with the goal of disengaging and getting to safety. As well as teaching the physical skills and techniques to do this we also teach about effective boundary setting, along with de-escalation and conflict resolution etc. Our program promotes the idea of violence prevention and avoidance, along with the physical tactics, strategies, and techniques to deal with aggressors when this isn’t possible. Not with the goal of punishing others but in order to create safe opportunities to disengage from the encounter and get to a place of safety. This is the same approach that we take with our adult program, however we put our solutions into the contexts that kids and teens are likely to face.
Our classes are 45-minutes long, and cover dealing with aggressors when standing, when on the ground (both against attackers who remain standing and against those who also end up on the ground), when accompanied and assisted by others or on their own etc. The Krav Maga solutions and techniques we teach are age appropriate e.g., we don’t teach any joint locks until students are at least 15, and our kids and teens program doesn’t teach any chokes or strangles (though at 15 we do teach solutions to these types of attacks). The program is divided into semesters that roughly follow the school year, with belts being awarded at the end of each semester. If a Semester is underway there is the opportunity to join partway through, and depending on attendance, and the ability to demonstrate techniques etc., be graded during the following semester etc.
Classes are taught in a fun and supportive manner, and we use many of the same “fighting games” and drills that are used in our adult Krav Maga classes. Students learn how to use a variety of pads and training equipment, such as focus mitts, kick shields, and target sticks etc., and there is a focus on being dynamic and moving all the time. These classes are designed to be fitness classes, but they do provide an active 45-minute workout. If you are interested in signing your kid and/or teen up to one of our classes to see if this is an activity they would like to partake in, please use the form below.
